CIArb is an international centre of excellence for the practice and profession of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Our growing membership of 14,000 is based across 133 countries and supported by an international network of 37 branches. The Institute provides education and training for arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators.
It also acts as a global hub for practitioners, policy makers, academics and those in business, supporting the global promotion, facilitation and development of all ADR methods.

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators CIArb, United Kingdom was founded in 1915, incorporated in 1924, and granted a Royal Charter in 1979. The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (United Kingdom) has a multi-disciplinary membership of over 10,000 members located in 84 countries around the world.
ABOUT NIGERIA BRANCH
The Nigeria Branch is one of the branches of the CIArb. The Branch was granted approval by the Institute in 1999 having fulfilled the requirements to be granted Branch status. Since then it has grown in its membership and has over 1137 members. Its membership cuts across all disciplines including practitioners in Law, Construction, Shipping, Engineering, Insurance, Banking, Accounting, Oil & Gas etc.
The Nigeria Branch has in its fold, seasoned Arbitration Practitioners of international repute. In the exercise of its functions, it maintains close links with other professional arbitral bodies worldwide.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is recognized as the professional body for training and examination of those seeking to become qualified arbitrators, mediators and other ADR Practitioners.
COURSES & PROGRAMMES
At CIArb’s core is its delivery of training, education and qualifications. The Institute has established a worldwide reputation for excellence in these areas with courses suitable for all levels of experience. Our tiered Training Pathways deliver expert know-how and support career progression in the ADR field.
The Institute welcomes applications from members of all professions, who while not necessarily aspiring to Fellowship or practicing as an arbitrator have become involved with commercial dispute resolution as part of their primary professional role. Membership of the Institute provides a greater understanding of the procedures and practices of dispute resolution.
The Institute provides education and training to help you attain all these levels. The courses are taught by experienced arbitrators and academics. Entry is through the Associate grade. For those with little or no knowledge of dispute resolution, it is necessary to complete an entry course for Associate Membership. Suitably experienced lawyers may qualify for Fellowship by completing the Fast Track Programme.
